skills development evaluation
Skill development evaluation
To produce my preliminary task and foundation portfolio the main software I used was Photoshop. For my preliminary task I had never used an apple mac computer or Photoshop so it was very confusing to use at first and therefor affected my products. Looking at my college magazine to my final music magazine front cover there are major differences and improvements. For example i had learnt how to use photo shop better, by using the polygon lasso tool instead of the magic wand tool. ECT. From my research i have learnt the different conventions of music magazines. (plugs, bold short mastheads, etc) my preliminary task is a very boring front cover, this would not sell in a shop, where as my final product would because it looks like the real thing. Software I used was Prezi which was used to present my evaluation. I used this because the software makes my blog more creative and it’s a more exciting way to present information rather than PowerPoint. I used a Nikon camera to take my pictures to make them more professional looking. My final product has been taken under profession lightning, whereas my preliminary task was taken in college, this shows that my preliminary task was rushed and not enough effort was put into it, whereas my final product was planned where/when/what. Lorem ipsum was used to create my article to fill in the space before I had time to write one.
Creativity
Creativity came from using guidelines from other media texts to create your own idea. The creativity was definitely shown through my article; this is because you had to write about a band/artist that doesn’t exist and had to completely make up this person’s life. A lot of the creativity came from reading other real media texts.
Research
For my research I had to pick a genre, which I chose indie this is because not only do I read indie magazines such as the NME but I had lots of ideas I could of used. For example I had a model in mind from the start. For part of my research I had to do a LIAAR analysis for my choses genre. This involved spending a lot of time researching other real media texts, such as indie magazines NME and Q magazine. We also had to research audience media packs and make our own, this involves circulation, readership ABC1 people, median age, male/female and a reader profile. For Photographic influences i wanted my model to have tattoos, because most indie listeners are covered in them. Unfortunately my model doesn't have them, so i researched how to use Photoshop to add fake tattoos onto my photos of my model.
Planning
For cast and location I originally wanted to use a different model because he suited the indie look better, however he couldn't take the time off to take the pictures with me, due to illness/work/band practice. This became too late so I had to choose a different model. I used my brother because had long side swept hair that indie people have. If I did it again I would definitely of chosen a better suited model. The location was at my house, not because it was easy but because we had spot light lighting and bright white walls, this made a good background for my images. However I updated these plans because my photos wasn't what i wanted them to turn out how i liked, i retook them with different costumes and a different model that looked more indie to suit my genre and relate able to my target audience. I used same location of my house, because of the white walls, and spotlights.
I also did an interview of my target audience asking questions such as how old they are, if they are in education full time, three favourite bands or artists and if they go to gigs, if so what bands and when did they see them. This helped me know what to involve as my additional stories on my front cover and contents page to fill up and follow conventions of other indie magazines.
