Q1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

How media product conforms forms and conventions of real media products

real media products use a variety of shot types in their video, and usually change the shot every three seconds or so. this is to engage their audience and to keep the video interesting. shot types include pans, tilts, zooms, close up, medium close ups, long shots and establishing shots, all which i have tries to include in my video to make it more professional.
examples:
in this clip of my video i have used a zoom with the title sequence 'break the rules' which is very conventional to see at the beginning of a music video, as seen in other popular music videos such as taylor swifts 'blank space' i then used a tilt, this angle is good for showing  what the actress is wearing (costume) followed by an establishing shot of the garage full of bikes. i used motorbikes in my music video because they have connotations of being a "bad girl" and being "edgy" which is how i wanted my actress to come across as. each shot was only 2-3 seconds long, conforming to the conventions of real media products.

Another example:

in this shot i used a zoom out to be able to fit all my actress on the screen without cutting her head and arms out, i learnt screen placement in first year when creating my music video, i carried this skill on to A2. at the same time of the zoom out the lyrics are 'across the world' the zoom out emphasises this because it shows her spreading her arms out. this is then followed by a low angle shot, this is very affected because the lyrics at this point say 'putting on our dancing shoes'

textual analysis

these are the locatoions and why i chose them. this is conventional of real media products because they use a variety of different locations to keep interest in the video.

NARRATIVE ANALYSIS
Narrative theory:
O’Sullivan et al (1998) suggest, narratives have  a common structure, starting with the establishment of plot or theme. this theory occurs throughout my video because i have an edgy theme. this can be seen in:

  • costumes - rebellious school uniform and a black lacy LBD
  • hair colour
  • tattoos all features in my digipak, CD and music video.
  • in my music video she throws her school book off the balcony
  • dances around the corridors in college when should be in lessons
  • stands on her college work
Michael Shore(1984)
his arguments that relate to my music video is :surface without substance, simulated experience , image and style, vanity and  the moment and adolescent male fantasies. this is because it shows no real meaning and focuses on beauty and vanity of the female artist all conventional or present real media texts.

Sven Carlsson (1999) suggests that musicvideos in general, videos fall into two rough groups: performance clips and conceptual clips.  When a music video mostly shows an artist (or artists)
singing or dancing, it is a performance clip. this is what my music video consists of, mainly dancing and lip syncing.
